Visualization of the capital invested over time in the portfolio overview

• What feature do you want to see in Sharesight?
The Overview shows me the portfolio value over time. I would like to see a line showing the capital invested for the current portfolio value. Every buy add to that line, every sell deducts the amount (proportionally) put into the original buy order.
Add-on: Include and exclude dividend payments in the portfolio value.

• Why do you want it?
That way I visually see how my portfolio is performing. If the portfolio value is above the invested capital line, I am making a profit.

• How is this affecting you?
(obvious)

• Do you currently have a workaround solution? If yes, what is it?
Not really. I can look at the Holdings table and subtract the Gains from the Value to get the amount invested. But that only shows it at the current time and not over a period.

• Can we reach out in future to ask follow up questions about this idea?
Yes

Reto,

I think that would really just show you are you in the black or red on a portfolio.
And it wouldnt take into account compounding or annualised returns.

You annualised rate of return that Sharesight displays is a much better metric.

However I think a variation your idea for an individual stock would be useful.

If Sharesight showed the annualised return on each buy trade for a holding.
Then you can see if you have been buying at the right time i.e. did you buy when the price/PE was low.

I think this would be useful too. It would assist me by knowing that I am reaching the targets I set for my portfolio’s to reach. As fluctuations occur all the time knowing how much you’ve invested in total is a good metric to know.
