• What feature do you want to see in Sharesight? I want the Australian Capital Gains Tax (CGT) report to explicitly include the historical exchange rates used for both the cost base and the sales value, alongside the individual underlying trade rows for foreign/US investments.
• Why do you want it? As a dual Australian citizen with US investments, relying on a single, final converted AUD figure makes it impossible to verify the accuracy of the calculations. Displaying the exchange rates and individual trades provides a critical “sense check” so I can audit the data and ensure every transaction was captured correctly.
• How is this affecting you? It creates a lack of transparency and data confidence. Additionally, different accountants handle foreign investments differently. The best option is being able to provide both the US value and Australian value so as the investment owner, I can ensure the original US value is correct and then the accountant can have confidence that the conversation has been handled correctly if we are not asking them to do it because I have gotten it from Sharesight.
• Do you currently have a workaround solution? If yes, what is it? I am forced to use other reports such as Sold or All trades report get the exchange rates for each individual buy/sell, but this is extremely tedious for several reasons including that you cannot narrow down any of those reports to only include only select investments and then you have to integrate the data with the capital gains report. And it becomes even more complicated when there are partial lot sales or stock splits, so it’s not as straight forward to just pull across the “buy” exchange rate.
• Can we reach out in future to ask follow up questions about this idea? Yes
